 Background

Dr. Harmon holds B.S and M.S. degrees in Physics and received his Ph.D at the University
of Wyoming in 1968 with research interests in nuclear spin relaxation in liquid ethane. He has
been at ISU since 1969 was promoted to Professor of Physics in 1980 and was the chair of
the Physics Department from 1988 to 1997. He has been the principle for more than forty grants and contracts from various
sources including the National Science Foundation, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, American Chemical Society,
the Research Corporation, and the U.S. Department of Energy.

Major Areas of Interest and Accomplisment

Dr. Harmon's present research is focused on small accelerators and the ISU Accelerator Center. Additional research interests
include the following:

Magnetic Resonance techniques applied to the study of molecular motion in condensed phases.
Design and development of scientific instrumentation
Generation of charged particle and photon beams, and their application to material analysis.
